AWS Class ER347 filler welding wire and rod are specially designed austenitic stainless steel alloys that excel in welding situations where intergranular corrosion resistance is a must. These filler metals are stabilized with niobium (also known as columbium), which helps prevent carbide precipitation during the welding process, making them perfect for high-temperature settings. You’ll often find ER347 in industries like chemical processing, power generation, and aerospace, where components face high temperatures and corrosive environments.
Typically, the chemical makeup of ER347 filler metals includes 17.0–21.5% chromium, 9.0–11.0% nickel, 0.75% molybdenum, 1.0% manganese, 0.30–0.65% silicon, and niobium calculated as ten times the carbon content, capped at 1.0%. This specific composition guarantees outstanding resistance to intergranular corrosion and excellent weldability. When it comes to mechanical properties, ER347 boasts a tensile strength of around 86,000 psi (593 MPa), a yield strength of 57,000 psi (393 MPa), and an elongation of 35%, showcasing its good ductility and toughness.

Stainless Steel ER347 TIG filler rod, available in sizes from 1.0mm to 3.2mm, ensures excellent corrosion resistance and stability. Suitable for welding stabilized stainless steel in demanding industrial applications.
ER347 filler metals are perfect for welding base materials like 304, 304L, and 321 stainless steels. They’re frequently used in applications such as welded pipe systems, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels that operate at temperatures exceeding 400°C (752°F). The inclusion of niobium significantly boosts the alloy’s resistance to carbide precipitation, making it particularly effective at preventing weld decay in high-temperature conditions. You can find ER347 in various forms, including solid wire, cored wire, and stranded electrodes, all of which are suitable for both MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding processes.
AWS class ER347 is typically used for welding stainless steel in applications requiring high corrosion and heat resistance. It is ideal for welding parts in chemical and petrochemical industries, electrical generation and high temperature environment. Typical applications include welding tanks, heat exchangers and piping systems. Its intergranular corrosion resistance makes it suitable for service in high-temperature environments. Or where stress corrosion cracks can occur ER347 is also used in the aerospace and nuclear industries due to its durability and reliable performance.
