The AWS Class E317L-16 electrodes have a chemical makeup that mainly includes chromium (18-20%), nickel (11-14%), and molybdenum (2-3%), along with a low carbon content (maximum 0.03%) to reduce carbide precipitation. This special alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance and toughness. On the mechanical side, these electrodes provide high tensile strength (at least 75 ksi or 515 MPa) and good elongation (minimum 30%). Thanks to their low carbon content, the welds are resistant to sensitization, making them perfect for welding austenitic stainless steels that need superior strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting.
